The Magic of 18 Finishes

Great morning everyone, Laura here! Gerald asked me to share some things on the call this morning and I wanted to discuss “The Magic of 18 Finishes.” So what does that mean? It refers to a specific situation that I was in a few months ago and I’ll share that in just a little bit. As many of you know, I am currently training for my very first IRONMAN triathlon with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in October of 2019—the year I turn 40. An IRONMAN triathlon is an event that encompasses 3 disciplines… swimming, biking, and running… the event itself is a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run… also known as a marathon. I did not anticipate that this endeavor would be an easy one. I’ve always considered myself to be athletic but I knew I wanted to give myself a challenge as I approached my 40 th birthday… something to get me in shape, something to commit to, and something I would have to work hard a...

IRONMAN Journey - Swim Success

There are certain things I want to remember... things that made me laugh along my IRONMAN journey. This is one of them.  Friday, 20 August 2018... text sent to friends and family...  --- So, I swam 5,000 yards this morning...  3,000 of it was non-stop.   Before I started, Coach asked me how many laps was 3,000 yards... and I said, "60!"   And he said, "Very good!"  And I said, "I'm going to do 20, 20, 20."  And he said, "Whatever." :)  Anyway, I swam 3,000 in the same time it took me to swim 2,500 two weeks ago... 56 minutes and some seconds...   Coach said, "You must have had a bad day that day you swam 2,500."   I said, "It was a good day that day." :)   But he gave me the best compliment when I was all done today, he said I'm ready for my IRONMAN swim! :) --- My favorite part is when Coach said, "Whatever." :)

Hello All! An update on me! I just finished reading my 12th book of the year tonight-- The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins . I enjoyed the book and came across this wonderful Rumi quote: "There's a voice that doesn't use words, listen." Just stop and soak that in for a second... :) My goal for the year was to read 12 new books... I'm a little ahead of schedule! Andy Andrews' newest book is next! It's called:  The Little Things: Why You Really Should Sweat the Small Stuff Looking forward to it! As far as an update on IRONMAN training... I just started my 5th month of training and I registered for my first ever triathlon this week! I will be competing in the Deer Creek triathlon on Sunday, 11 June 2017. It is part of the 26th Annual FIT Family Series! I am nervous and excited! I feel strong and confident... I know I have been putting in the hours of training and I have already trained for longer distanc...
